Distinguished Athlete – LaMont Jordan

Born on November 11, 1978, LaMont Jordan attended John Edgar Howard Elementary and Francis Middle School before graduating from Suitland High School in 1997. During high school, he was a multi-sport athlete, excelling in baseball, football, track, and swimming, while also managing the women’s basketball team. He was a county champion in the 100-meter
dash and regional champion in the 55-meter dash.

His athletic achievements earned him a full scholarship to the University of Maryland, where he became a four-year starter on the football team. By the conclusion of his college career, he had broken several school records, including career rushing yards (4,147), single-season rushing yards (1,632 in 1999), single-game rushing yards (306 vs. Virginia in 1999), single-season rushing touchdowns (16 in 1999), and career rushing attempts (807). With 18 career 100-yard rushing games, he still remains the University of Maryland’s all-time leading rusher. In 1999, he was named First-Team All-ACC and Second-Team All-American.

He was drafted in the second round by the New York Jets and played for the Oakland Raiders, New England Patriots, and Denver Broncos throughout his NFL career.

Post-retirement, he has dedicated his time to mentoring coaching, and training youth throughout the DMV area. He currently serves as the sideline reporter for University of Maryland football games and as the head coach of the Washington Prodigy women’s tackle
football team. He strives continue to foster athletic development in his community.

Preceding this Hall of fame award, LaMont was inducted in the University of Maryland Hall of Fame and the state of Maryland Hall of Fame.
