Distinguished Humanitarian – Dr. James McCarl

Jay McCarl, a lifelong Prince George’s County resident and Parkdale High School graduate, has dedicated his life to service. After graduating from Gettysburg College and the University of Maryland Dental School, Jay returned to Greenbelt to join his family’s dental practice, the McCarl Dental Group.

For more than four decades, he has paired his professional work with volunteer service—providing pro bono dental care locally, mentoring aspiring dentists, and traveling to places as far as Haiti and Poland to care for those in crisis.
Jay is known for his motto: “Take your child—and one more.”

He has coached countless youth in basketball, lacrosse, and field hockey, tutored local students, and guided teens through college applications. He and his wife, Kim, have also supported single-parent families and opened their home up to foreign exchange students.
From his dental outreach to his dedication to youth and community, Jay’s impact is felt in every smile, in every team he’s coached and in every life he’s touched.
