Distinguished Young Leader – Chantel Powell
Chantel Powell is a wife, mom and entrepreneur who boldly disrupted the highly competitive hygiene industry with her creation. A proud alumna of Prince George’s County and Clark Atlanta University, Chantel began her career as a wardrobe buyer at Tyler Perry Studios.
In 2017, Chantel’s journey took a pivotal turn after picking up her then 6-year-old son Kameron from basketball camp. In Chantel’s words, “He got in the car smelling like a grown man!” Concerned about using adult antiperspirant on her son, she explored natural deodorants. Finding none suitable for kids, she created her own.
Kameron, feeling confident after using it, suggested, “Mom, you should make this for everybody!” She would go on to launch Play Pits, a natural hygiene company designed specifically for kids. Now available in Target stores nationwide, Amazon, VitaCost, Walmart.com and PLAYPITS.com, her brand continues to grow, offering safe and effective hygiene solutions for the entire family.
