Eligibility Requirements:
- Applicants must be residents of District 8.
- Applicants must have a minimum weighted GPA of 2.0 or higher at their current institution.
- Applicants must be enrolled in or accepted to a college, university, or trade school at the time of application and provide proof of matriculation.
- Applicants must demonstrate a positive impact in both academic and community settings by submitting a letter or résumé highlighting their involvement in school and/or community activities.
- Applicants must submit a minimum of two letters of recommendation from educators who have taught them during high school, college, or a trade program, and one letter of recommendation from a sponsor of an extracurricular activity or community organization.
- Note: Recommendation letters should be on official letterhead (if possible), specific to this scholarship, and current (not an admission recommendation letter). Recommenders will receive a request through the Reviewr online application system.
Required Documentation:

- High school students must submit a high school transcript.
- College or trade school students must submit their current transcript.
- Graduates must submit both their high school transcript (or GED certificate) and their current college/trade school transcript.
- Proof of acceptance into a post-secondary institution.
- Completed Reviewr online application form.
Selection Criteria:
Scholarship recipients will be selected based on academic merit, financial need, and community involvement. Students who have demonstrated academic excellence, community engagement, or leadership skills are strongly encouraged to apply.
Essay Requirement
Applicants must submit a well-developed, two-page typed essay detailing their experiences and inspiration for making a positive impact in their school and community.
Essay Prompts:
In your essay, please address the following questions:
- How have you positively impacted others in your community? What inspired you to get involved and make a difference?
- How will this scholarship support your educational journey?
- What do you hope to achieve upon completing your education, and how will it benefit your community?
Formatting Guidelines:
- Applicant’s name and address must appear in the top-right corner of each page.
- Essay must be typed, double-spaced in Times New Roman or Arial (size 12 font).
- Submit the essay as single-sided pages (not double-sided).

Application Timeline
- March 10, 2025 – Scholarship application opens.
- April 30, 2025 (11:59 PM EST) – Application deadline. All required materials must be submitted through the Reviewr application portal by this date.
Submission Guidelines
- Applicants must attach all required components of the scholarship packet—including the essay—in the online application form.
- All uploaded documents must be labeled as follows:
- [Last Name, First Name] – [Name of Scholarship]
(Example: Doe, John – Burroughs District 8 Scholarship)

Review & Selection Process
- May 5, 2025 – May 16, 2025 – The Scholarship Committee will review all complete applications and evaluate candidates based on academic achievement, financial need, and community involvement.
- May 23, 2025 – Candidates and their parents/guardians will be notified of scholarship decisions via email.
Scholarship Banquet
- June 11, 2025 – Scholarship recipients will be recognized at the Scholarship Banquet. Attendance is required for all awardees. Further details regarding the event will be provided in the award notification.
